A heated summer is upon us.
With Heated Rivalry Season 2 preparing to film this August, it's impossible not to think about how Shane and Ilya's story will continue to unfold on screen. While many of us already know what happens in the books, seeing those moments brought to life on screen will be a completely new experience.
It's worth mentioning that we still don't know exactly how much of The Long Game will be adapted in Season 2. There have been rumors about the book potentially being split into multiple seasons, but nothing has been officially confirmed. So, before the cameras start rolling, here are 10 The Long Game moments I'm excited to see in Season 2:

This is one of the moments I'm most hoping to see adapted. Not only because of the importance of the storyline, but because it could be a powerful moment for even more people to see Hudson's range as an actor and the emotional depth he brings to Shane.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Hudson interact with the kids and bring out a softer, more playful side of Shane. It would be a completely different dynamic to explore and a fun way to see another side of the character.
Shane is canonically one of the best players in the league, and I would love to see him get more recognition for that. I need to see Shane do the Rozanov move while Ilya watches from the couch with Shane's parents. I think Hudson would look amazing doing that. 👀
The trophy room scene is great, but the gym scene is the one I'm really hoping survives the adaptation.
I'll be first in line to defend Shane Hollander against any and every bad take next season. There has already been a lot of discussion around Shane's eating habits, his autism, and his experiences as a person of color, and I really hope the series gives his story the care, nuance, and respect it deserves.
Shane's story is not a simple one. The Long Game is about growth, change, and the challenges Shane and Ilya face while trying to build a life together. Hudson has already shown such a strong understanding of who Shane is, and I'm excited to see how he approaches this next phase of the character.

Season 2 is the chance to see Shane and Ilya finally get to just exist as a couple. Even if most moments happen behind closed doors, I want to see the little things: the comfort, the routines, and the life they are building together. Also, let's be honest, the sex. :)
This is such an important part of Shane and Ilya's story. It's a major turning point and the result of so much build-up, tension, and everything they've been carrying throughout their relationship. And honestly Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie are going to absolutely eat this scene. I already know they are going to deliver.
Reading this part of the book always leaves a pain in my heart. But I also think there is an incredible opportunity here to create something truly cinematic.
The emotions, the fear, and everything that comes after this moment are going to be intense. The performances we are going to get from these scenes are going to be epic. I'm already proud.
Everything has led to this moment. After everything they've been through, seeing this scene adapted will be incredibly special. I can't wait to see Hudson and Connor bring all the emotion of this moment to life.

And now, for the less fun part. As excited as I am for everything that's coming, I also think it's important to acknowledge some of the harmful things that have become part of the conversation around the series and its cast. Wanting this season to succeed also means wanting the people behind it to be treated with respect.

Dumb Fan wars.
Manufactured drama over little things.
Racism.
Homophobia/Transphobia/Biphobia.
Fatphobia.
Bodyshaming.
Misogyny.
Any form of hate or bigotry.
We all want the same thing: to see Shane and Ilya's story treated with the care, respect, and love it deserves. The success of the series is a testament to the incredible work the team has already done in bringing this story to the screen, especially with the resources available during the first season. The team did an amazing job, and the impact of the series speaks for itself.
That being said, I hope Season 2 comes with a stronger commitment to supporting and protecting its cast. I hope the production takes a clear and firm stance against hate, harassment, and unnecessary negativity directed toward the people who bring this story to life. The cast deserves to feel supported and valued.
Social media is a major part of how productions connect with audiences and promote their series and movies. But when those spaces become filled with hate and harassment, it cannot simply be dismissed as "something that only exists online". Racism, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination and hate have real-world consequences, and addressing them matters.
